2013 was a year of highs and lows for celebrity hair – Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence decided to chop of their locks in favour of the pixie cut, and Beyonce also chose a dramatically shorter style for her fresh look to accompany her new album. This blog gives a run down of the hair successes and catastrophes of the past twelve months.
Nicole Richie
For some reason, in light of New York’s MET ball last May Nicole had the urge to dye her hair a shocking silver. Not the light blondey/silver/grey colour that was classed as high fashion, we’re talking Granny-grey, and to top it off the short hair was teased high, standing tall and rock solid on the top of her head. Why, Nicole, why?!

Anne Hathaway
Since her Oscar-winning appearance in Les Misérables where she had to cut her hair, the actress has donned a stylish pixie cut and has set a trend for countless other celebrities. The feminine haircut really suits Anne’s face, creating softness and highlighting her features; which is probably why it won Elle’s Best Hair in America 2013 in the pixie category. To spice it up she has even dyed it blonde for some red carpet appearances, but we prefer the brunette version of Anne’s pixie crop.
Jennifer Lawrence
This actress also decided to cut her locks into a short, blunt pixie style, after claiming her tresses were damaged from dying it all the time. Unfortunately we didn’t love this look on Jennifer, especially just before awards season when she could have looked so glamorous sporting long locks! Although she still looks pretty, the soft blonde tone of the pixie cut doesn’t have enough effect and doesn’t flatter Jennifer’s face. If her hair was damaged, we’d recommend Jennifer to cut it to shoulder length and then use natural looking hair extensions – nobody would have noticed!

Zooey Deschanel
The top award for versatility with long hair definitely goes to cute New Girl star Zooey Deschanel. Her long dark hair with a fringe is her statement signature, but she still does so much with it. We’ve seen two snaps of her from last year’s Emmys and the Met Ball, and we can’t believe how different she looks. It just goes to show what a difference a fringe can make, but it looks like for the up style she has just swept the fringe over to create a different look.

Miley Cyrus
We don’t really know what to say of Miley’s outrageous transformation, but it all seemed to start with the punk cropped hair. There’s times when she rocks it and times when she doesn’t, but we feel it’s here to stay as she desperately tries to shake off her good-girl past.
