Hot Off the Runway: Hairstyles from the Fashion Weeks

At Hair Development we live and breathe fashion. It’s what ensures that we have an up-to-the-minute outlook on all the latest hair trends, styles and cuts. So when fashion week season rolls around you can bet that we’re glued to blogs, TV stations, YouTube channels and any other platform that showcases this year’s hottest hair styles from London, New York, Milan and Paris. Here’s what we loved:

Rope braids

Forget intricate fishtails. This year’s ‘plait’ went back to basics, using just two sections to create a stylishly simple look. To recreate pull the hair into a ponytail, then divide into two segments, saving a smaller strand to wrap around the base. Twist both sides tightly in a clockwise direction, then secure with an elastic.

Chic chignons

This year designers opted for chignons to create an elegant and on-trend look. The Methodology models were particularly apt at pulling it off. Channel Paris chic by pulling back your hair into a ponytail at the base of your neck. For a slightly more casual look let some strands fall loose over your face.

Masculine side part

While Italians may be the masters of tailoring, this year’s Milan fashion week was brimming with ‘boyfriend’ styles. Think longer coats, looser slacks and of course, the masculine side part where stylists sweep the hair up and over the face, starting from as far as the edge of the eyebrow.

Natural waves

When Calvin Klein models took to the runway flaunting the latest spring collection, it was all about free spirited freshness. The floral patterns and floaty fabrics were complemented by ‘au natural’ waves that are wonderfully easy to recreate.

Turbans and head wraps

When it comes to accessories, this year’s runways bowed down to turbans and head wraps. They came in an array of different colours and fabrics, with most attire from Indian-American fashion designer Naeem Khan looked particularly stunning in their colourful headwear.

Boho knots

This year’s shows were noticeably less polished and primed than we’ve seen in the past. The boho knot reflects the mood perfectly, with plenty of models strutting down the runway with their locks ‘knotted’ into a low bun.
