The Salon Guide to Growing Out Bangs

Growing out bangs can be incredibly frustrating and styling an overgrown fringe is also a girl’s worst nightmare! We’ve put together this salon guide for growing out your bangs, so you can do it with style.

Tip 1: Keep trimming!

When you first decide that enough is enough, you’re probably tempted to abandon the hairdresser altogether. But actually, at this stage, trims are really good and can actually help your fringe grow faster. Obviously you need to trust your stylist and make sure they do TRIM and not CHOP your bangs! Trims promote healthy hair, which grows faster, so it’s essential to keep trimming if you want to grow out your fringe fast.

Tip 2: Switch to side fringe

It’s time to train your bangs to part at the side, rather than in the middle – this is essential when growing them out! Choose if you’d like to angle it to the left or to the right, or you may find it goes one way more naturally anyway. Start clipping it into place and the longer it gets, the easier it will be to fall naturally.

Tip 3: Headbands are your friend

Sometimes the easiest thing to do when growing out your bangs is to scrape them up off your face. This is easily done with a headband of any style, but you’ll probably need to also work your headband with an updo to prevent flyaway strands. Brush your fringe back with a heavy brush, and you’ll probably also need some hair product to smooth it up and blend it in with the rest of your hair.

Tip 4: Keep hair healthy and hydrated

Keeping hair healthy and preventing breakage will help you grow out your bangs faster. Never skip conditioner and add some extra conditioning masks and treatments to your weekly routine. Healthy hair grows!

Tip 5: Work with what you’ve got

At each stage of growing out a fringe, you need to learn with what you’ve got. There’s no point in trying to force your bangs into a style when it’s obviously not happening. You can use different techniques at each stage – the headband should be useful at first, then when it grows a little longer you’ll be able to part it at the side and twist it, or clip it into a quiff.

Good luck with growing out your bangs!
